Q: Why does it seem like I always get a headache when I drink red wine?
~Throbbing!

A: I have heard that more than once. TRUST! I have also heard some people refer to this problem as the RWH (Red Wine Headache). First thing is first. When you drink wine do you drink water? Every glass should be at least attempted to be backed up with water. I enjoy red wine but I always back up my vino with water. Here is a fact: Wine has a lot of tannins. What are tannins? Tannins are found in the skins of grapes. Sound confusing yet? Tea, soy and chocolate have tannins as well but don't always seem to be an issue with getting a headache. I read an article in The Wine Rack that stated, "Red wine has a lot more histamines than white, but there was a report in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology regarding a study of 16 people with an intolerance to wine, found no difference in reactions to low- and high-histamine wines." With that said, I really don't want to discourage you, but I will say this, give red wine a try, be consistent with your water, and thank me later.
